Turn Your Obstacles Into Possibilities Listen...for you will hear the answer you are searching for!!! By: Princess Ezenwa Okenwa |
No one gets through life unscathed. Pain, rejection and sorrow have been obstacles in life but they have also been a source of inspiration. Recently I was so burdened with a load of obstacles or challenges beyond my wildest imagination. No sooner than one challenge is off my shoulder, there comes another, and yet another, like darts of arrows purposely aimed at me. I was blessed to have so many special friends and business advisors that counseled and kept me focused. I listened, believed and my faith never wavered as I actively tackled each challenge one after the other with proven dynamic steps to success, thereby, turning each obstacle into a possibility. These obstacles also inspired me to start writing once again and to focus on my desire to succeed against all odds. Cindy Bessleman reminded me that Peter walked on the sea at just the command of “Come”. I’m encouraging you to keep moving forward on the command of:
Beth Fogelman reminded me that sometimes we are just too busy worrying and complaining about the challenges that we neglect to seat, listen and meditate. Reminded me about the story of Mary and Martha. Martha busy complaining while Mary sat and listened to Jesus. So often we fail to see the Answer because we focus on the obstacle, which has already happened or is happening, instead of focusing on the message and how to turn it around to a possibility.
Never give up no matter how difficult a situation may be. It may seem absolutely impossible but remember you can do all things. That means the impossible becomes possible. Give it all you can. Let's work together. When you partner, miracles happen. Together we can make a difference. I had great friends that guided and encouraged me through my challenges. You too will succeed in the end. Forget about your failures. The past is a negative and should remain that way. Dredging up old wounds however, will not make you feel better. African Business News was established to serve as a discussion forum for use in finding solutions to all the challenges one face. Move ahead and focus on the grand prize ahead! Believe in yourself and your dream - Your dream will definitely come true. Work your dream and see the ripen fruits at the end of the harvest. Get Ready, Let's Get Set, GO! Rounding the last 50 meters of the 400 meter race, the lead track runner shoots ahead in an unbelievable burst of speed, crosses the finish line giving the second contestant at least 20 meters gap of catching up. The cheering spectators scream and shout from grandstand as the referee signals the end of the race. Finishing the race in record time, 400 meters in less than 40 seconds, how’s that for accomplishing more in less time? What a thrilling finish! Yes the economy is bad. The road ahead is rough and bumpy but we have to look beyond that terrible scenario. Unemployment, staggering loss of investment or something precious - all these are set backs. Fears and panics are set backs. No one gets through life unscathed. Pain, rejection and sorrow have been obstacles in life but they have also been a source of inspiration. The question is what are you going to do about these setbacks? These situations are definitely not the end of the world. Why don’t you channel that energy in creating an enormous picture, something big and bold? Set a specific goal and be committed to give it all you can to make it successful. To achieve success for a burning desire, follow these guidelines:

The rain will fall - sometimes, very stormy. Yet, just like it started, the rain will surely stop. Why? That’s the law of nature—a natural occurrence. By the same reasoning, we know that whenever it rains in our lives, for example, economic downturn, slow business, out of business, unemployment, difficult times, family problems, etc., that too, must surely pass. Don’t throw up your hands in the air and give up. Learn how to look ahead for a better tomorrow. Literally speaking, two years ago, in January 2007, the ice storm blasted St. Louis area and left behind a trail of destruction—power outages, fallen trees, prompting the Governor of Missouri, Matt Blunt to declare a state of emergency and call in the National Troops. Life did not stop because of the state of emergency neither did we sit and wallow in self pity because of the losses. Homes, businesses, crops, were destroyed and amidst all these, the National Troops, MoDot, Community Centers, the Police and the Fire departments, AmerenUE etc., worked together. AmerenUE rallied around and with collaboration from other state agencies, restored electricity The ice storm just like your fears, passed through. When you think of your fear as a storm, you will agree with me that it’s just a matter of time, when your storm or fear will pass away too. Expect the best out of life. Believe and it will come to pass. Don’t let any obstruction stop you from attaining your dream. Any obstruction is a temporally delay to reaching your dream. Don’t give up on your dream because of a temporally occurrence. Remain persistent. Everyone had faced some kind of problem in the past or is facing it right now. Life is not always a bed of roses. Take courage, have a positive attitude, and in this New Year, believe without any shadow of doubt, that something better is just around the corner. Stay consistent. Be persistent. In time the pain will go away. Subsequently, in time, your dream will materialize. If You Dream It, You Can Have It. To Overcome Your Fear

2010, The Dawn Of An Era
|
| By: Princess Ezenwa Okenwa |

My dream is of a peaceful co-existence of all men, women and children of the world. In a peaceful world everyone should be respected and recognized as equal regardless of the color of one’s skin, nationality, sex, language or religion. But in a world full of stereotypes, we stifle our progression towards the ultimate goal of peace. Stop for a moment and think. By recognizing that we are men and brothers, not rivals or enemies leads towards the beginning of a peaceful coexistence. We can build together and also climb to the mountain- top. United, we can overcome any obstacle easier than when we are divided. Lives are threatened and lost in several communities in Africa and around the world. All of this is due to the lack of a peaceful co-existence of our global community. Imagine a world full of peace and harmony, that’s a world that I would love to see. We all have differences, but we shouldn’t condemn anyone for that. We should try to accommodate and accept each other just as we are. We should stop being discriminatory of our fellow man and learn to love each other. For when we find that connection with one another we will be able to come closer to our common goal for a peaceful co-existence. The 82-year-old pope, Pope Benedict XVI, put children; especially those hurt by conflict or forced to leave their homes, at the heart of his call for peace. He said they make it evident that men are brothers because "despite differences, they cry and laugh the same way, have the same needs, communicate spontaneously, play together." The painful images of children at the mercy of war and violence, their faces "disfigured by pain and desperation,” are a silent appeal for peace, Benedict said. The value of respect for all should be taught from an early age, Benedict said. Noting that classes containing children of different backgrounds are common, he said that "their faces are a prophecy of the kind of humanity we are called upon to create: a family of families and peoples." What do successful people look like? Do they look powerful, impressive, charismatic? Can you put two people side by side and instantly tell which is more successful? These are questions people have asked for years. It’s time to evaluate ourselves. It's time to assess our goals in other to revamp or reproduce the formula for our success in 2009. Goals can create the power to make us grow and expand and develop us with renewed confidence. But we’ve got to have something out there that is compelling enough to draw us forward. Done properly and specifically, they can transform our lives. 2009 is gone. It has become a past. It would remain in the past and therefore, we can’t go back. We should, however, learn from it and use it to create a more formidable and successful 2010. If we want to be successful in 2010, assess your goals; focus and work your goals with action packed road map. Let 2010 be the Dawn of an Era: an Era of New Beginnings, an Era for Reality Check, and an Era for Team Work. An Era Of New Beginnings Did you achieve all the goals you set in 2009?
• Write down all the challenges faced in the past. • Write down how each challenge was solved. • Follow a specific guideline of action plans and deadlines to accomplish each goal. • Be persistent and follow up on whatever it takes to succeed and turn each goal to a reality.
• Did you have a specific guideline that you followed to achieve all the goals set? • If you can reproduce the formula, make sure it is written down and follow the same format for the New Year • If the formula is not written down, stop right now, before conducting any business in 2010. Go back from the beginning and | ||||||
| write down step by step guideline of what you did to succeed. With the guideline in hand, you will be able to reproduce the same successful business steps you could apply to a different location. • Write down things to avoid and what to do in case an unavoidable challenge develops. An Era For Reality Check Ron Tucker, Senior Pastor of Grace Church, once said, “Every one of us has a death sentence”. When you are doomed! And all of a sudden you are saved from the impending doom - what happens after that is: Your Reality Check! I had my reality check the day after I had my third child. I had an out of life experience. I found myself above, looking down on the men and women below, dressed in white, in front of my room at the hospital. When I finally realized that something was definitely wrong, I cried out to God. “Why would you take my life now, Lord? You made me a promise the day I conceived, that You, Lord, had given me my Joy and that my prayers had been answered. How could I experience this joy when I’m dead?” I continued to query God. “Who will take care of my Joy or the other precious Angels You had placed in my care? The 2lb 1oz premature baby who's given less than 48 hours to live by the doctors, does not have a chance without her mother.” I promised God to do whatever it takes to do His plans for my life - for another chance to live. The Authoritative Voice of Africa is one of the plans God has for me. My life was spared and it was later that I found out that I was truly in great danger. They had a “Cold Blue” alert at the intensive care unit, which explained why the doctors and nurses were there rallying around to find out why, without any warning or prior illness, my life was quickly slipping away from me. Life is too short. Let 2010 be a time to reflect on what God has done for you. Count your blessings. Write down all the miracles that happen daily in your life. Find time daily to meditate and thank God for taking care of you. Step out confidently expecting the very best, and acknowledge and appreciate God. You will in turn receive unfathomable blessings beyond your dream. An Era For Team Work One of the most rewarding experiences of life is to make someone around you better. Are you a team player? Are you willing to do whatever it takes for your team to succeed? To what extreme would you go to make others around you better? It’s all about sacrifice. Make sure your intentions are right when you sacrifice. Do not look for praise when you sacrifice? When your teammate is down, do something; give up something to make them happy. Take the extra effort to help your struggling teammates. If they miss the chance, encourage them and when the same scenario happens again, they will believe in themselves because you believed in them. You never know how much your sacrifice benefits someone else. Some people live their life wanting that one chance. How great would it be to give that person that assist on their one only chance? “There are plenty of teams in every sport that have great players and never win titles. Most of the time, those players aren’t willing to sacrifice for greater good of the team. The funny thing is, in the end, their unwillingness to sacrifice only makes individual goals more difficult to achieve. One thing I believe to the fullest is that if you think and achieve as a team, the individual accolades will take care of themselves. Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships.” Michael Jordan. Let us work together as a team and collaborate to find solutions.
